  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking pan.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, molasses, and hot water. Mix until well combined.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.

  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.

  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.

  6. Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. Allow the gingerbread to cool before cutting into squares.
