  • 2 oranges
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp poppyseeds
  • 1/2 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. Zest one orange and set aside. Juice both oranges and set aside.

  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add in the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and poppyseeds. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk and orange juice. Mix until just combined.

  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, transfer the cake to a wire rack to cool completely.

  7. Once the cake has cooled, sprinkle the orange zest over the top for garnish. Serve and enjoy!
