Ingredients
- 2 oranges
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup milk
Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a round cake pan.

Cut one orange into thin slices, removing any seeds. Set aside.

In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

In a separate bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy using an electric mixer.

Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk. Mix until just combined.

Arrange the orange slices on the bottom of the prepared cake pan.

Pour the batter over the orange slices, spreading it evenly.

Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes.

Run a knife around the edges of the pan to loosen the cake, then invert onto a serving plate.

Peel and segment the remaining orange and use it to garnish the cake.
