  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 2 cups of peeled, cored, and chopped apples
  • 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.

  6. Fold in the chopped apples and walnuts.

  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly.

  8. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  9. Remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

  10. Serve the fresh apple walnut cake as is or with a dusting of powdered sugar on top.
