Preparation: 30 minutes
Cooking: 40 minutes
Total: 1 hour 10 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 4 oz dark chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour a star-shaped cake pan.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

  3. Add the milk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and eggs to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.

  4. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.

  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

  7. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until it starts to simmer. Remove from heat and add the chopped dark chocolate. Let it sit for 1-2 minutes, then stir until smooth and creamy.

  8. Allow the chocolate truffle mixture to cool for 10 minutes. Then, whisk in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until well combined.

  9. Once the cake has cooled, use a serrated knife to level the top if necessary.

  10. Cut the cake horizontally into two layers. Spread the chocolate truffle cream on the bottom layer, then place the second layer on top.

  11. Use the remaining chocolate truffle cream to frost the top and sides of the cake.

  12. Decorate the cake with additional chocolate shavings or sprinkles, if desired.

  13. Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving.

  14. Enjoy your delicious Chocolate Truffle Star Cake!
