Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • zest of 1 orange
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract and orange zest.

  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with orange juice and milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.

  5. Transfer half of the batter to a separate bowl. Stir in the chocolate chips into one bowl of batter.

  6. Drop alternate dollops of the plain and chocolate batter into the prepared cake pan. Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the batters together to create a marbled effect.

  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

  8. Slice and serve the chocolate orange marble cake.
