Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 1/2 cup chopped hazelnuts
  • Chocolate ganache, for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  4. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.

  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.

  6. Fold in the orange zest and chopped hazelnuts.

  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly.

  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  9. Remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it onto a wire rack to cool completely.

  10. Optional: Once the cake has cooled, spread chocolate ganache on top for an extra indulgence.

  11. Slice and serve the chocolate, orange & hazelnut cake.
