How To Make Swedish Cardamom Bread

A soft and flavorful bread with a hint of cardamom spice.

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup of warm water
  • 1 tbsp of active dry yeast
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 cup of butter, melted
  • 2 tsp of ground cardamom
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 1 egg
  • 4 cups of flour

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the water and yeast, let sit for 5 minutes.

  2. In a large bowl, mix the warm milk, sugar, melted butter, cardamom, salt, and egg.

  3. Add the yeast mixture and stir to combine.

  4. Add the flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing until the dough forms a ball.

  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes.

  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover and let rise for 2 hours.

  7. Preheat oven to 375°F.

  8. Punch down the dough and form into a long loaf.

  9. Place on a greased baking sheet and let rise for 30 more minutes.

  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.

  11. Let cool on a wire rack.
