How To Make Lebanese Falafel Recipe

A crispy, flavourful and vegan mediterranean snack made from chickpeas, herbs and spices.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups canned chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/4 cup parsley leaves, chopped
  • 1/4 cup cilantro leaves, chopped
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a food processor, pulse chickpeas, onion, garlic, parsley, cilantro, cumin, coriander, cayenne, salt and baking powder until a coarse mixture forms.

  2. Transfer mixture to a bowl, stir in flour and mix well.

  3. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.

  4. Scoop mixture by tablespoonfuls and shape into balls or patties.

  5. Fry in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crisp.

  6. Drain excess oil on paper towels and serve hot with hummus and pita bread.
