How To Make Instant Pot Biryani Recipe

A fragrant and delicious Indian rice dish cooked in an Instant Pot.

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1 cup mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, green beans)
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 tsp biryani masala powder
  • 2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 3 cups water
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2-3 cloves
  • 2-3 cardamom pods
  • A small stick of cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Rinse the basmati rice and soak it for 30 minutes.

  2. Turn on the Instant Pot and select the sauté mode. Add oil and heat it.

  3. Add the bay leaf, cloves, cardamom pods, and cinnamon stick to the Instant Pot and sauté for a few seconds until fragrant.

  4. Add sliced onions and sauté until they become translucent.

  5. Then, add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few seconds until the raw smell goes away.

  6. Add chopped tomato, mixed vegetables, and all the spices, and sauté for 2-3 minutes.

  7. Add the soaked drained rice and mix everything well.

  8. Add 3 cups of water and mix well.

  9. Close the lid and make sure the valve is on the sealing position.

  10. Cook on high pressure for 6 minutes.

  11. Once the cooking is done, let the pressure release naturally for 10 minutes, and then release the remaining pressure manually.

  12. Open the lid, fluff the rice with a fork, and serve hot.
