How To Make Nigella’s Apple Crisp Recipe

A classic dessert made with warm apples and a crisp, buttery topping.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium-sized apples, peeled, cored and sliced
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.

  2. In a large bowl, mix together the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cornstarch, ground cinnamon and salt until the apples are well coated.

  3. Transfer the apple mixture to a 8×8 inch baking dish.

  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, ground cinnamon and a pinch of salt.

  5. Add the cold butter pieces to the flour mixture and use your fingers to rub the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

  6. Sprinkle the crumb mixture evenly over the apples.

  7. Bake the apple crisp for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.

  8. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
