How To Make Johnny’s Reuben Sandwich Recipe

A classic deli sandwich with layers of corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing on rye bread.

Ingredients

  • 8 slices rye bread
  • 1/2 lb thinly sliced corned beef
  • 1/2 lb Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup sauerkraut, drained
  • 1/2 cup Russian dressing
  • 4 tbsp butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Preheat a griddle or large skillet over medium heat.

  2. Spread softened butter on one side of each slice of bread.

  3. On the non-buttered side of 4 slices of bread, layer corned beef, Swiss cheese, and sauerkraut, dividing evenly between the 4 sandwiches.

  4. Spread Russian dressing on the other 4 slices of bread and place on top of the sandwiches, buttered side up.

  5. Place sandwiches on the griddle or skillet and cook until bread is toasted and cheese is melted, about 5-7 minutes on each side.

  6. Serve hot.
