How To Make Benihana Hibachi Vegetable Tempura Recipe

Crispy, golden and perfectly seasoned vegetable tempura from the famous Benihana Hibachi grill.

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup ice water
  • Assorted vegetables such as broccoli, zucchini, sweet potato, onion and bell pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Preheat oil in a large pan or deep fryer to 375°F.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt and black pepper.

  3. Gradually whisk in the ice water until the batter is smooth.

  4. Dip vegetables of your choice into the batter, making sure they are fully coated.

  5. Carefully place the coated vegetables into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy.

  6. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel to drain excess oil.

  7. Serve immediately with soy sauce or your preferred dipping sauce.
