Ingredients

  • 4 slices of bread
  • 4 tablespoons of butter
  • 3 cups of milk
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • a pinch of salt
  • whipped cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Spread butter on both sides of each bread slice.

  3. Arrange the bread slices in a baking dish.

  4. In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until hot but not boiling.

  5. In a bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt.

  6. Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture, whisking continuously.

  7. Pour the mixture over the bread slices, ensuring all slices are soaked.

  8. Allow the bread to soak for 10 minutes.

  9. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the pudding is set.

  10. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.

  11. Serve warm, optionally topped with whipped cream.
