Preparation: 30 minutes
Cooking: 20 minutes
Total: 50 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.

  2. Slowly add warm water while mixing with a spoon until dough forms.

  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.

  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

  5. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) and place a baking stone or inverted baking sheet on the middle rack.

  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into two equal portions. Shape each portion into a baguette shape by rolling it out and then tightly rolling it up, tucking in the ends.

  7. Place the shaped loaves on a lightly floured surface and cover them with a towel. Let them rise for another 30 minutes.

  8. Carefully transfer the risen loaves onto the preheated baking stone or sheet. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

  9. Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
