Preparation: 30 minutes
Cooking: 40 minutes
Total: 1 hour 10 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt.

  2. Make a well in the center and pour in the warm water and melted butter. Stir until a sticky dough forms.

  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.

  4. Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan with cooking spray.

  6. Punch down the risen dough and transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Knead it a few times to release any air bubbles.

  7. Shape the dough into a loaf and place it into the prepared loaf pan. Cover with the kitchen towel and let it rise for another 30 minutes.

  8. Bake the bread for 40 minutes, or until golden brown on top and sounds hollow when tapped.

  9. Remove the bread from the pan and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
