  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded white cheese (such as Monterey Jack or mozzarella)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

  2. Add the flour to the melted butter and whisk constantly for 2 minutes to cook off the raw flour taste.

  3. Slowly pour in the milk, whisking continuously until the mixture is smooth and thickened.

  4. Reduce the heat to low and add the shredded white cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until the cheese has melted and the sauce is smooth and creamy.

  5. Remove from heat and let the sauce cool for a few minutes before serving.
