How To Make Venison Cottage Pie

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs venison, diced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 cups beef stock
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. In a large skillet, heat some oil and brown the venison on all sides. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

  3. In the same skillet, add the chopped onion, carrots, and garlic. Cook until softened.

  4. Return the venison to the skillet and add the frozen peas, beef stock, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, and dried thyme. Season with salt and pepper.

  5. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then cover and cook for 1 hour, or until the venison is tender.

  6. Transfer the venison mixture into a baking dish and spread the mashed potatoes evenly on top.

  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until the mashed potatoes are golden and the filling is bubbling.

  8. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
