Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, sauté until fragrant and translucent.

  2. Add the crushed tomatoes, sugar, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.

  3. Reduce the heat to low and let the gravy simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese and chopped fresh basil leaves.

  5. Serve the tomato gravy over cooked pasta or as a dipping sauce for bread.
