How To Make Lentil and Spinach Dal

A warm and comforting Indian dish made with lentils and spinach, packed with protein and flavor.

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup red lentils, rinsed and drained
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cups spinach, chopped
  • salt to taste
  • lemon wedges for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a medium pot, bring the water to a boil. Add the lentils, turmeric, cumin, coriander, and cayenne. Stir well and reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 15-20 minutes or until the lentils are tender.

  2. In a pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and sauté until the onion is soft and translucent.

  3. Add the spinach to the pan and sauté until wilted.

  4. Add the cooked lentils to the pan and stir well.

  5. Season with salt to taste.

  6. Serve hot with lemon wedges on the side.
