Preparation: 30 minutes
Cooking: 15 minutes
Total: 45 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tbsp milk
  • Assorted candies for decorating

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt.

  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in the molasses, milk, and vanilla extract.

  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  5. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use a Christmas tree-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the dough and transfer to the prepared baking sheet.

  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown. Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.

  7. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk to make a glaze. Add more milk if needed to achieve a drizzling consistency.

  8. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cookies and decorate with assorted candies.

  9. Allow the glaze to set before serving.
