How To Make Ham and Split Pea Soup

Ingredients
- 1 lb ham, diced
- 1 cup split peas, rinsed
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- Salt and pepper, to taste

In a large pot, heat some oil over medium heat. Add the diced ham and cook until browned.

Add the chopped onion, carrots, celery, and minced garlic to the pot. Cook for 5 minutes, or until vegetables are tender.

Add the split peas, chicken broth, bay leaves, and dried thyme to the pot. Season with salt and pepper.

Bring the soup to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for about 2 hours, or until the split peas are tender and the soup has thickened.

Remove the bay leaves from the soup. Use an immersion blender or blend with a regular blender until desired consistency is reached.
