Ingredients

  • 8 slices of white bread
  • 4 tablespoons of butter
  • 8 slices of ham
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup of béchamel sauce (see recipe below)
  • Dijon mustard, to taste
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.

  2. Spread one side of each bread slice with butter.

  3. Place four slices of bread, buttered side down, on the skillet.

  4. Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on the unbuttered side of each slice.

  5. Top each slice of bread with a slice of ham and a slice of Swiss cheese.

  6. Spread a generous amount of béchamel sauce on the other four slices of bread, then place them sauce-side down on top of the cheese.

  7. Cook until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side.

  8. Remove from the skillet, slice diagonally, and serve hot.
