How To Make Simple Shepherd’s Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.

  3. Add the diced onion, carrots, peas, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for 5 minutes, until vegetables have softened.

  4. Stir in the tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, dried rosemary, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes, until the mixture thickens.

  5. Transfer the meat and vegetable mixture to a 9×9 baking dish. Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the top.

  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until the pie is heated through and the mashed potatoes are lightly golden on top.

  7. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
