Ingredients

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry
  • 1 lb of sausage
  • 1 cup of shredded cheese
  • 1 jalapeno, diced
  • 1/2 tsp of chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp of cumin
  • 1/4 cup of chopped cilantro
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to a rectangle shape.

  3. In a bowl, mix together the sausage, shredded cheese, diced jalapeno, chili powder, cumin, and chopped cilantro.

  4. Spread the sausage mixture evenly onto the center of the puff pastry.

  5. Cut slits on the sides of the pastry and fold the pastry strips over the filling, creating a braided pattern.

  6. Brush the pastry with the beaten egg for a golden brown finish.

  7. Transfer the plait onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the pastry is crisp and golden.

  8. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
