How To Make Snowflake Pretzels

Who says vegetarians don’t get to enjoy savory meals? A taste of these authentic vegetarian recipes will make you change your mind. So, you just might want to go vegetarian after your first bite.

Preparation: 20 minutes
Cooking: 10 minutes
Total: 30 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • Coarse salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Gradually add in the warm water and mix until a dough forms.

  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the dough back into the bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 1 hour.

  3. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  4. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and roll each portion into a long rope. Shape the rope into a snowflake by making a large loop with two small loops on either side.

  5. In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add in the baking soda. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds, then remove and transfer to the prepared baking sheet.

  6. Sprinkle the pretzels with coarse salt and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown.

  7. Allow the pretzels to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!
