How To Make Seitan Recipe

Turning vegan may look challenging for some, especially for those who can’t turn their eyes away from meat. But they just haven’t found these sumptuous vegan recipes that even non-vegans will surely enjoy!

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups vital wheat gluten
  • 1/4 cup nutritional yeast
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine vital wheat gluten, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.

  2. In a separate bowl, mix together soy sauce, tomato paste, vegetable broth, and olive oil.

  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix well to form a dough.

  4. Knead the dough for 5 minutes to develop the gluten.

  5. Let the dough rest for 15 minutes.

  6. Divide the dough into four equal pieces and shape them into small loaves.

  7. In a pot, bring water to a boil. Place the seitan loaves in the boiling water.

  8. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook the seitan for 1 hour, flipping them halfway through.

  9. Remove the seitan from the pot and let it cool before slicing or using in recipes.
