How To Make Seeded Wholemeal Loaf

A healthy and wholesome bread made with wholemeal flour and topped with a mix of seeds for added crunch.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups wholemeal flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp mixed seeds (such as sunflower, pumpkin, and sesame)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the wholemeal flour, salt, and honey.

  3. Pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil, then mix well until a dough forms.

  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  6. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.

  7. Sprinkle the mixed seeds on top of the loaf and press them gently to adhere.

  8. Place the loaf in a greased bread pan, cover, and let it rise for another 30 minutes.

  9. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

  10. Bake the seeded wholemeal loaf for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

  11. Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
