How To Make Day of the Dead Biscuits

These Day of the Dead biscuits are a sweet and festive treat, perfect for celebrating Dia de los Muertos.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • Icing sugar (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt.

  2. Add the cold butter pieces and using a pastry cutter or your fingers, mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and vanilla extract.

  4. Gradually add the egg mixture to the flour mixture, mixing until a dough forms.

  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for a few minutes until smooth.

  6. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.

  7. Use Day of the Dead-themed cookie cutters to cut out shapes from the dough.

  8. Place the cut-out dough shapes onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

  10. Allow the biscuits to cool completely on a wire rack.

  11. Once cooled, decorate the biscuits with icing sugar to create Day of the Dead skull designs.
