How To Make Chocolate Panettone

A delicious, chocolatey twist on the traditional Italian sweet bread, perfect for serving to 4 people.

Ingredients

  • 250g all-purpose flour
  • 50g cocoa powder
  • 7g active dry yeast
  • 50g granulated sugar
  • 100g dark chocolate, chopped
  • 100g butter, melted
  • 2 eggs
  • 175ml warm milk
  • 50g raisins
  • 50g candied orange peel
  • powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, yeast, and sugar.

  2. Add the chopped dark chocolate, melted butter, eggs, and warm milk to the dry ingredients. Mix well until a sticky dough forms.

  3. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. Add the raisins and candied orange peel to the dough, and knead for another 2 minutes until they are evenly distributed.

  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  6. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

  7. Transfer the risen dough to a greased panettone mold or a deep, round cake tin.

  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.

  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool in the mold for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

  10. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
