Serves:
Ingredients
- 4 thick slices of day-old bread
- 1 cup of milk
- 1/4 cup of sherry
- 1/4 cup of sugar
- 1 tsp of ground cinnamon
- 2 eggs
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
-
In a shallow dish, combine the milk, sherry, sugar, and cinnamon. Mix until the sugar is dissolved.
-
Dip each slice of bread into the milk mixture, allowing it to soak for a few seconds on each side.
-
In a separate dish, beat the eggs.
-
Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat.
-
Dip each soaked slice of bread into the beaten eggs, making sure to coat both sides.
-
Fry the bread slices in the hot oil until they are golden brown and crispy on both sides. This should take about 3-4 minutes per side.
-
Remove the Torrijas from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
-
Serve the Torrijas warm, sprinkled with additional cinnamon and a drizzle of honey or maple syrup, if desired.
