Serves:
Ingredients
- 4 slices of day-old bread
- 2 cups of milk
- 1 cup of heavy cream
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 cup of rum (optional)
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease a baking dish.
-
Cut the bread into cubes and place them in the prepared baking dish.
-
In a saucepan, heat the milk and cream until steaming.
-
In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, nutmeg, cinnamon, and rum (if using).
-
Gradually pour the hot milk mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
-
Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes, pressing down gently to ensure all the bread is soaked.
-
Let it sit for 10-15 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the custard.
-
Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan. Fill the larger pan halfway with hot water to create a water bath.
-
Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the bread pudding is set and golden on top.
-
Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
-
Serve warm or at room temperature.
