Preparation: 30 minutes
Cooking: 40 minutes
Total: 1 hour 10 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • Edible shimmer dust (green and gold)
  • Edible flowers and berries for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. In a separate large bowl, beat the sugar, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it onto a wire rack to cool completely.

  7. While the cake is cooling, prepare the ganache. In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream until it starts to steam. Remove from heat and add the chopped chocolate. Let it sit for a minute, then stir until smooth and glossy.

  8. Place the cooled cake on a serving plate. Slowly pour the ganache over the cake, letting it drip down the sides.

  9. Sprinkle edible shimmer dust over the cake to create a shimmering forest effect.

  10. Decorate with edible flowers and berries to resemble a magical forest.

  11. Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the ganache to set.

  12. Slice and serve the shimmering forest cake to impress your guests with its delicious taste and enchanting appearance.
