Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1/4 cup salted caramel sauce
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round cake pan.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. In a separate bowl, mix the sugar, oil, buttermilk, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.

  5. Stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth.

  6. Pour half of the batter into the prepared cake pan.

  7. Drizzle the salted caramel sauce over the batter and sprinkle with half of the chocolate chips.

  8. Pour the remaining batter over the caramel and chocolate chips.

  9. Top with the remaining chocolate chips.

  10. Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  11. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

  12. Serve slices of the cake with additional salted caramel sauce, if desired.
