Ingredients

  • 200g unsalted butter
  • 200g granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 200g self-raising flour
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 200g milk chocolate
  • 50g white chocolate
  • 50g dark chocolate
  • 50g hazelnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C and grease a round cake tin.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then fold in the flour and cocoa powder.

  4. Pour the batter into the prepared cake tin and smooth the top.

  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool completely.

  7. Meanwhile, melt the milk chocolate in a heatproof bowl over simmering water.

  8. Once the cake has cooled, use a serrated knife to carefully cut it into the shape of a hedgehog.

  9. Place the cake on a serving plate and pour the melted milk chocolate over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides.

  10. Use the hazelnuts to create the hedgehog’s spikes, pressing them firmly into the chocolate.

  11. Melt the white and dark chocolate separately, then use them to create the hedgehog’s eyes and nose.

  12. Allow the chocolate to set before serving.
