  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 ounces dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 6-inch round cake pan.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

  3. Place the chocolate and butter in a heatproof bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.

  4. In a separate large bowl, beat the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined. Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture, mixing well.

  5. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.

  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.

  7. Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

  8. Remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

  9. Serve the fudgy dark chocolate cake as is or with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
