  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. In a medium bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.

  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Mix until just combined.

  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.

  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove from the pan and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

  8. Once cooled, you can frost the cake with your favorite frosting or serve as is.
