Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • Cream cheese frosting (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract.

  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

  5. Pour half of the batter into the greased cake pan, spreading it evenly.

  6. In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon.

  7. Spoon half of the cinnamon sugar mixture over the batter in the pan, spreading it evenly.

  8. Pour the remaining batter over the cinnamon sugar mixture and spread evenly.

  9. Spoon the remaining cinnamon sugar mixture over the top of the batter in the pan, swirling it into the batter with a knife.

  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  11. Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

  12. Once the cake has cooled, spread cream cheese frosting over the top.

  13. Slice and serve.
