How To Make Lebanese Mountain Bread

Preparation: 20 minutes
Cooking: 20 minutes
Total: 40 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 ½ cups warm water

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, and salt.

  2. Add the olive oil and warm water to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.

  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.

  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

  5. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) and place a baking stone or baking sheet in the oven to heat up.

  6. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and roll each portion into a thin round shape, about 8 inches (20 cm) in diameter.

  7. Carefully transfer the rolled dough onto the preheated baking stone or baking sheet.

  8. Bake the Lebanese Mountain Bread for about 5-7 minutes, or until it puffs up and turns golden brown.

  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool before serving.
