How To Make Kanafa Recipe

Ingredients

  • 250g kataifi pastry
  • 150g unsalted butter, melted
  • 200g fresh mozzarella cheese, grated
  • 200g sweet cheese (such as Akkawi or Ricotta), grated
  • 1 cup simple syrup (made with 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water)
  • A handful of crushed pistachios, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

  2. In a large bowl, separate the kataifi pastry strands with your fingers to loosen them.

  3. Pour the melted butter over the kataifi pastry strands and mix well until evenly coated.

  4. In a round baking dish, evenly spread half of the coated kataifi pastry strands and press them down firmly.

  5. In a separate bowl, mix the grated mozzarella and sweet cheese together.

  6. Spread the cheese mixture over the layer of kataifi pastry strands in the baking dish.

  7. Cover the cheese mixture with the remaining coated kataifi pastry strands, pressing them down firmly as well.

  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  9. Remove from the oven and immediately pour the simple syrup evenly over the hot kanafa.

  10. Allow the kanafa to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

  11. Garnish with crushed pistachios.
