How To Make Old Italian Meat Sauce Recipe

Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb ground pork
- 1 onion, diced
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 carrot, grated
- 1 celery stalk, diced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
- 1 cup beef or chicken broth
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions

In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion, minced garlic, grated carrot, and diced celery. Cook until vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.

Add ground beef and ground pork to the pot, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned and fully cooked, about 7-8 minutes.

Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef or chicken broth, red wine, dried oregano, dried basil, dried thyme, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.

Reduce heat to low, cover the pot, and let the sauce simmer for at least 1.5-2 hours, stirring occasionally.

Serve the meat sauce over your favorite pasta or use it as a filling for lasagna or stuffed shells.
