How To Make Israeli Halva

A sweet, nutty dessert made from sesame paste and sugar.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sesame paste (tahini)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • ¼ cup chopped almonds or pistachios

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, simmer the sesame paste, sugar, and water over medium heat until the mixture thickens and pulls away from the sides of the pan, about 8-10 minutes.

  2. Pour the mixture into a greased 9-inch pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

  3. Sprinkle the chopped nuts over the top of the halva and gently press them in.

  4. Allow the halva to cool to room temperature, then cut into slices and serve.
