Dutch Stroopwafels Recipe

How To Make Dutch Stroopwafels

Thin waffles with a sweet caramel filling.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup warm whole milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup dark corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, melted butter, milk, egg, granulated sugar, yeast, cinnamon, and salt until a smooth dough forms.

  2. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the dough rise for 30 minutes.

  3. Preheat a waffle iron on medium-high heat.

  4. Divide the dough into small balls that fit inside the waffle iron.

  5. Cook each ball in the waffle iron for up to 2 minutes or until golden brown.

  6. While the waffles cook, prepare the filling by melting the corn syrup, brown sugar, and butter in a saucepan over medium heat.

  7. Once melted, spread the mixture over one waffle, and then sandwich with another waffle on top.

  8. Repeat step 7 with remaining waffles.
