  • 1 pre-made 9-inch pie crust
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 oz semisweet chocolate chips
  • Whipped cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.

  2. Place the pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Let cool.

  3. In a medium saucepan, whisk together milk, sugar, cornstarch, salt, and egg yolks.

  4. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly until the mixture thickens and comes to a boil, about 10-12 minutes.

  5. Remove from heat and add unsalted butter, vanilla extract, and semisweet chocolate chips. Whisk until melted and smooth.

  6. Pour the filling into the cooled crust and smooth the top.

  7. Let the pie cool to room temperature before refrigerating for at least 2 hours.

  8. Serve with a dollop of whipped cream.
