Preparation: 30 minutes
Cooking: 20 minutes
Total: 50 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup ground beef
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup diced carrot
  • 1/4 cup diced potato
  • 1/4 cup frozen peas
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. In a separate bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk and let it rest for 5 minutes.

  2. Add milk mixture, vegetable oil, and beaten egg to the dry ingredients. Knead the dough until it becomes smooth and elastic.

  3. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

  4. In a skillet, cook ground beef, onion, carrot, potato, and peas until the vegetables are tender. Season with salt and pepper. Let the filling cool.

  5. Punch down the dough and divide it into small balls. Roll each ball into a circle and place a spoonful of the filling in the center.

  6. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling and pinch them together to seal. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.

  7. Heat oil in a deep frying pan. Fry the pirozhki until they turn golden brown on all sides. Remove from the pan and drain on paper towels.

  8. Serve the pirozhki warm as an appetizer or snack.
