How To Make Blooming Onion

Ingredients
- 1 large onion
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 cup buttermilk
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions

Cut the onion vertically from the top, leaving the root intact. Make 8 equally spaced downward cuts around the onion.

In a shallow bowl, mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.

Dip the onion into the buttermilk, making sure to coat it completely.

Place the onion in the bowl of seasoned flour and gently press the flour onto the onion, making sure to cover all the cuts.

Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).

Gently lower the onion into the hot oil and fry for about 10 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

Remove the blooming onion from the oil and let it drain on paper towels.

Serve the blooming onion immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
