  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1/2 cup port wine
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and cook until softened.

  3. Sprinkle in the flour and stir well to combine, cooking for an additional 2 minutes.

  4. Gradually whisk in the broth, then add the port wine, soy sauce, and brown sugar.

  5. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring constantly, until thickened.

  6. Reduce the heat to low and let the gravy simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  8. Remove from heat and serve warm over your favorite roast or mashed potatoes.
