How To Make Italian Easter Bread Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp anise extract
  • 4 colored hard-boiled eggs

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and yeast.

  2. Add melted butter, warm milk, eggs, salt, and anise extract. Mix until dough forms.

  3. Knead dough for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

  4. Place dough into greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise for 1 hour.

  5. Preheat oven to 350°F.

  6. Divide dough into 4 equal parts and shape into braids. Place onto greased baking sheet.

  7. Push a colored hard-boiled egg into the center of each braid and let rise for 15 minutes.

  8. Brush with beaten egg wash and bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.

  9. Cool on wire rack before serving.
