Ingredients

  • 4 ripe plantains
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Peel the plantains and cut them into bite-sized pieces.

  2. In a bowl, combine the ground ginger, ground pepper, ground nutmeg, ground cinnamon, and salt.

  3. Add the plantain pieces to the bowl and toss them in the spice mixture until well coated.

  4. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.

  5. Carefully place the spiced plantain pieces into the hot oil and fry them until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.

  6. Once fried, remove the plantain pieces from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  7. Serve the Kelewele hot as a delicious appetizer or snack.
