How To Make Lutefisk

Ingredients
- 1 pound of lutefisk
- 4 cups of water
- 1/4 cup of lye
- Salt, to taste
- Butter, for serving
- White sauce, for serving
Instructions

Place lutefisk in a large bowl and cover with water. Let it soak for 24 hours, changing the water every 6 hours.

In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Stir in lye until dissolved. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool.

Rinse lutefisk thoroughly under cold water, removing any excess lye residue.

Place lutefisk in a clean pot and cover with fresh water. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 2 hours, or until the fish becomes translucent and easily flakes with a fork.

Remove lutefisk from the pot and season with salt to taste.

Serve lutefisk hot with melted butter or white sauce.
